About The Book

"Sex too Soon!" A subject not covered enough over most pulpits. When we open ourselves up to sexual sin at a young age, do we also open a Pandora's Box filled with pain and emotional baggage that could affect our adult life? What affect does illegitimate sex have on the mind and body?

This Novella is a compelling story of influence, choices, consequences, and the offer of redemption that some receive and others reject. The book also provides a separate Bible study guide that can be used for individual or group studies.

Quote provided by best-selling Author Michelle Stimpson

Prologue
It was the middle of June and seemingly the perfect weather and season for a wedding. Hot, yet, somewhat breezy with the smell of fresh flowers and fresh mowed lawns. Everyone was filled with excitement as people from all walks of life flooded the small country church in great anticipation for what was soon to take place. It was Christine’s wedding day. After waiting so long and after much debate, she was finally marrying one of the most eligible Christian bachelors that a woman could marry. Well liked in the small community the couple lived in, Aldridge, was a genuine man of God.

He came from a long line of preacher men, as Christine’s grandmother called them.

“Hold that preacher. Grab him and don’t let go of him.” Christine could hear those words that Grandma Ruth used to recite.

Also, some of the older mothers of her home church would practically idolize the preacher. These women had some sort of notion that if you went out of your way to accommodate a preacher, then you had special favor with God. Now Christine was about to marry one, so you can imagine how all the older women felt.

“Marry that preacher man, and you set yourself up for life. Don’t ever let him go.” Ah, yeah! If Grandma Ruth were alive today, she’d cut her a step across the church for sure today.

Christine, with her marred past, had managed to get her life together, or so it seemed. Christine still endured emotional struggles. For one, the residue dangling from her past before meeting Aldridge. Her appetite for acceptance and identity flawed her ability to choose wisely in the arena of finances and men. She held onto low self-esteem, even though she was one of the most beautiful young women in the church. She had a difficult time accepting gifts and encouragement. She didn’t have a connection with her family, and most of all, didn’t seem to find real satisfaction in her ministry work for the church. The more she worked, the more down and out she’d become.

Christine suffered from depression. At times she’d cover up her pain by involving herself in relationships with men who were not right for her; even after meeting Aldridge. After all, by her not having that special bond with her father growing up, she didn’t know how to distinguish love from sex and had a serious identity problem. In her past, Christine seemed to connect with the bad boys and not the nerdy guys who attended church. The ones who were not so nerdy were already taken, or flirted so badly with the women until it became a complete turn off for Christine. Christine remembered having an affair with a married man during her early twenties before she’d gotten saved, and it ended up in total disaster. She vowed never to involve herself with married men again.

And then she met Aldridge. He was not the type of man that she normally fell for, but for some reason, she did. The two seemed to hit it off soon after Christine had broken up with one of her flings. She was getting more acquainted with God at this time of her life and becoming more serious about her faith. Aldridge, of course, was a big help to her in this area. He had his own hidden baggage and had no idea how to communicate his struggles to Christine. He busied himself with playing the Knight in Shining Armor for Christine.

As time went on, Christine developed a passion for the things of God. She was fine spiritually, but emotionally she was troubled. This goes to show that there are many in the church world today who mask their pain. And even though they have truly given their life to Christ, without healing and deliverance in certain areas, they still live poor quality Christian lives. This is dangerous, because the devil knows how to push certain buttons and attempts to destroy our fellowship with our Heavenly Father.

In the meanwhile, think and ponder on this question: When one engages in sexual sin at a very early age, can the results that follow open a Pandora’s Box of emotional trauma and baggage that can have an erratic effect on our lives even after becoming a Christian? Let us get to reading.

“Look at me with your ugly face when I talk to you, gal!” Burchell Pigmore roared, his big, rough, calloused hand coming down hard on the back of Bella’s head, sending her flying face down onto the concrete floor of the veranda.
Screaming out in agony, nineteen-year-old Bella rolled over into a fetal position, her scrawny legs pulled towards her chest. “I’m sorry, Papa,” she mumbled, tasting blood in her mouth.
“Sorry? You are always sorry,” her father yelled before he pummeled Bella’s body with kicks from his heavy duty, dirty work boots. “You are too ugly.” He kicked her in the back. “Too lazy.” Another kick landed on her bottom. “You give me too much talking.” A kick in her side. “You have the devil in you.” Two more kicks in her back. “You are worthless, good for nothing trash.” A few more kicks to her body.
Her body was vibrating with pain from the beating it was taking. Bella closed her eyes, transporting herself to her hiding place deep in the crevice of her mind. She was floating through a large, beautiful field filled with exotic flowers and tall, statuesque, scented trees. The luscious green grass under her feet felt like cotton balls. The bright yellow sun kissed her beautiful face, while the cool breeze tickled her body all over. Bella smiled and raised her dainty hands into the air, happiness and joy swimming through every pore in her body. I’m in paradise, Bella thought. I don’t ever
“Get your skinny behind up,” Burchell shouted, bringing Bella back to reality. He reached down, grabbed his daughter by her slender neck, his fingers squeezing tight with all their might, and pulled her to her feet.
Bella squealed and kicked wildly, but she was no match for her beast of a father. “Let me go, Papa! Somebody help me! Jesus!” But Bella’s screams went unheard in the small community as no one came to her aid.
“Jesus? You think Jesus wants anything to do with your ugly behind?” Burchell’s fist rivaled that of the great Muhammad Ali when it connected with the girl’s stomach.
Bella saw bright colored lights dancing in front of her eyes as the ground began spinning around.
“I’ve enough of you!” He landed another uppercut to her stomach that felt as if it went inside and twisted up her intestines like a pretzel.
Burchell released the hold on her neck and Bella grabbed her stomach and bent over, tears swimming down her face as she choked and coughed, sucking much needed air into her burning lungs. Her head pounding, her stomach cramping, and her body aching, Bella took a few baby steps as she stumbled away from her father.
But Burchell grabbed a hold of her blouse bringing Bella as close as possible. With heavy blows to her body he proceeded to beat her within an inch of her life.
As the young girl’s eyes rolled to the back of her head, with blood surging down her face, she slumped towards her father, losing the battle of consciousness.
With a smirk on his face, Burchell stepped to the side and watched in satisfaction as Bella’s body crumbled to the floor once again.
“That’s what you get for not listening to me,” he said, spitting a wad of tobacco spittle on Bella. “Worthless just like your whoring mother. May her soul rest in the pit of hell.” Burchell turned and walked into the three-bedroom house, slamming the door shut on the sight of his daughter’s unconscious body.
A few minutes later, groaning in agony, Bella tried to open her eyes but they seemed to be shut together. She gingerly rolled over onto her back, biting her lips to stop the scream trapped in her throat. Her body was throbbing from head to toe. Finally, Bella managed to get one eye half open and glanced around, confused.  She realized she was lying on their veranda and the memory of the beating she took earlier came flooding back. Bella wasn’t sure how long she was passed out, but she resented the fact that she woke up.
“Why didn’t you just let me die?” Bella mumbled through bloody, swollen lips, looking up into the ceiling. “Lord, why do you continue to let me suffer like this?” Tears seeped down the sides of her eyes onto the floor. “Mama, can you hear me? I want to be with you, Mama,” Bella said as she talked to her deceased mother who had passed away a year ago. “I want to die too.” But neither God nor her mother responded.

Excerpt
“Nma, so where’s this husband you keep saying you have?” Abayomi heard the man say as he approached.
Olanma giggled and then abruptly stopped. Abayomi knew that in that moment she sensed his presence. She turned sideways, but the man she was with was so busy checking her out that he didn’t see Abayomi walk up.
“If he’s not taking care of…”
“I hear you’re looking for me and I take care of my wife just fine.” Abayomi came to a halt between Olanma and the man.
The look of shock on both their faces was satisfying. Nma? He couldn’t believe she allowed another man to call her that. Not even her father called her “beauty.” Only two people had that privilege – he and her grandmother. Or so he thought.
Abayomi snaked his arm around his wife’s waist and kissed her hair. He then stretched out his other hand to the man. “Abayomi Rice, said husband.”
The expression on the man’s face switched from shock to embarrassment. At least he had some shame.
After a few moments, he heard his wife say, “Yomi, this is Emeka Maduka, an old friend.”
Old friend? That’s what she thought. The man wanted her. Abayomi wasn’t fooled. He wrote the book on old friends. It was time to cut this little reunion short. “It was nice meeting you. I’ll take my wife now.”
Abayomi didn’t wait for a response before he ushered Olanma out of the ballroom. He found a secluded area where they could talk. He stared at her and began to pace. He had never been good at hiding his possessive nature.
“Yomi, that was rude and what are you doing here?” Olanma asked in a hushed whisper.
“Apparently, reminding you that you’re still my wife.”
She stared at him in disbelief. “No, I’m not doing this with you.”
“Really? Nma,” Abayomi said, his tone laced with irritation and sarcasm.
“You’ve got some nerve. You pop into Lagos two days ago, and then you don’t come home…” Her voice was shaky with rage. “I’m not doing this with you. Not here.” She began to walk away.
Abayomi exhaled. He was messing this up. “Olanma, wait.”
She stopped, but didn’t turn around.
“I’m sorry. I saw him touch you and then you laughed with him. I haven’t heard that sound in ages and I saw red.”
He hadn’t meant to reveal all that, but masked feelings were what had brought them to this point. If there was going to be a chance for them, they would have to lay down the masks. And since he was the one that was served with divorce papers, he had to take the first step. His prayer was that his vulnerability would lead them back to the intimacy they once shared. Where their souls were tied as one and hopefully rebuild their trust. He hoped she would see that.
Olanma walked back to him and stared at him intently. “It’s been a year. What did you expect? That I’d curl up and die?” She turned and walked away.
Her heated eyes showed him her soul. She was hurt, but so was he. This wasn’t what he imagined for them. Past the pain and anger he saw in her eyes, he also saw longing and love. It was clearer to him that restoring his marriage would be an uphill battle. Losing, however, wasn’t an option.
